but in his own seasons manifested his word in the message, with which I was entrusted according to the commandment of God our Savior;

who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify to himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.

But when the kindness of God our Savior, and his love toward man, appeared,

not by works [done] in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

that, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

whom I have sent back to you in his own person, that is, my very heart:

has at the end of these days spoken to us in [his] Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds;

who being the radiance of his glory, and the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had made purification of sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high;

And of the angels he says, Who makes his angels winds, And his ministers a flame of fire:

God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by manifold powers, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will.

You put all things in subjection under his feet. For in that he subjected all things to him, he left nothing that is not subject to him. But now we do not see yet all things subjected to him.

Therefore it behooved him in all things to be made like his brothers, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also was Moses in all his house.

And Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were afterward to be spoken;

but Christ as a son, over his house; whose house we are, if we hold fast our boldness and the glorying of our hope.

Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, Today if you shall hear his voice,

while it is said, Today if you shall hear his voice, Do not harden your hearts, as in the provocation.

And to whom did he swear that they should not enter into his rest, but to those that were disobedient?

Let us fear therefore, lest perhaps, a promise being left of entering into his rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.

For he has said somewhere of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;
