When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he kept loving standing there, he said to his mother, "Woman, here is your son."John 2:4; 13:23; 20:2;">[xr]

Then he said to the disciple, "Here is your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.John 1:11; 16:32;">[xr]

A jar of sour wine was standing there, so they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth.Matthew 27:48;">[xr]

After Jesus had taken the wine, he said, "It is finished." Then he bowed his head and released his spirit.John 17:4;">[xr]

But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.

Instead, one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water immediately came out.1 John 5:6,8;">[xr]

The one who saw this has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows he is telling the truth so that you, too, may believe.

Later on, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus (though a secret one because he was afraid of the Jews), asked Pilate to let him remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, and he came and removed his body.Matthew 27:57; Mark 15:42; Luke 23:50; John 9:22; 12:42;">[xr]

After saying this, he showed them his hands and his side, and when they saw the Lord the disciples were overjoyed.John 16:22;">[xr]

So the other disciples kept telling him, "We have seen the Lord!" But he told them, "Unless I see the nail marks in his hands, put my finger into them,into the nail marks">[fn] and put my hand into his side, I will never believe!"

A week later his disciples were again inside, and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were shut, Jesus came, stood among them, and said, "Peace be with you."

But these have been recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ,[fn] the Son of God, and so that through believing you may have life in his name.Luke 1:4; John 3:15-16; 5:24; 1 Peter 1:9;">[xr]

Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin),Didymus">[fn] Nathaniel from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two of his other disciples were together.Matthew 4:21; John 1:45;">[xr]

That disciple whom Jesus kept loving said to Peter, "It's the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put back on his clothes, for he was practically naked, and jumped into the sea.John 13:23; 20:2;">[xr]

Peter turned around and noticed the disciple whom Jesus kept loving following them. He was the one who had put his head on Jesus' chest at the supper and had said, "Lord, who is the one who is going to betray you?"John 13:23,25; 20:2;">[xr]

This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them down. We know that his testimony is true.John 19:35; 3 John 1:1:12;">[xr]

He answered them, "It is not for you to know what times or periods the Father has set by his own authority.Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32; 1 Thessalonians 5:1;">[xr]

With one mind all of them kept devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, including Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers.Matthew 13:55; Luke 23:49,55; 24:10; Acts 2:1,46;">[xr]

(Now this man bought a field with the money he got for his crime. Falling on his face, he burst open in the middle, and all his intestines gushed out.Matthew 26:15; 2 Peter 2:15;">[xr]
