Then each of them went to his own home.

They said this to test him, so that they might have a charge against him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.

You don't know him, but I know him. If I were to say that I don't know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him and keep his word.John 7:28-29;">[xr]

His disciples asked him, "Rabbi,Rabbi is Heb. for Master and/or Teacher">[fn] who sinned, this man or his parents, that caused him to be born blind?"John 9:34;">[xr]

Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned. This happened so thatBut so that">[fn] the works of God might be revealed in him.John 11:4;">[xr]

Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.

So the Pharisees also began to ask him how he had received his sight. He told them, "He put mud on my eyes, then I washed, and now I can see."

The Jews[fn] did not believebelieve about him">[fn] that he had been blind and had been given sight until they summoned his parentsthe parents of the man who had been given sight">[fn]

His parents replied, "We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.

But we don't know how it is that he now sees, and we don't know who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is of age and can speak for himself."

His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews.[fn] For the Jews[fn] had already agreed that anyone who acknowledged that Jesushe">[fn] was the Christ[fn] would be thrown out of the synagogue.John 5:34; 7:13; 12:42; 16:2; 19:38; Acts 5:13;">[xr]

That's why his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him."

He answered them, "I've already told you, but you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't want to become his disciples, too, do you?"

At this, they turned on him furiously and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses!

We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but he does listen to anyone who worships him and does his will.Job 1:27:9; 35:12; Psalm 18:41; 34:15; 66:18; Proverbs 1:28; 15:29; 28:9; Isaiah 1:15; Jeremiah 11:11; 14:12; Ezekiel 8:18; Micah 3:4; Zechariah 7:13;">[xr]

It is to him the gatekeeper opens the gate, and it is his voice the sheep hear. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

When he has driven out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they recognize his voice.

Mary was the woman who anointed the Lord with perfume and wiped his feet with her hair. Her brother Lazarus was the one who was ill.Matthew 26:7; Mark 14:3; John 12:3;">[xr]
