I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.Genesis 18:17; John 17:26; Acts 20:27;">[xr]

Remember the word that I spoke to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.Ezekiel 3:7; Matthew 10:24; Luke 6:40; John 13:16;">[xr]

At this point, some of his disciples said to each another, "What does he mean by telling us, 'In a little while you will no longer see me, then in a little while you will see me again,' and 'because I am going to the Father'?"

His disciples said, "Well, now you're speaking plainly and not using figurative language.

Listen, the hour is coming, indeed it has already come, when you will be scattered, each of you to his own home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.Matthew 26:31; Mark 14:27; John 8:29; 14:10-11; 20:10;">[xr]

After Jesus had said this, he went with his disciples across the Kidron valley to a place where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered.2 Samuel 15:23; Matthew 26:36; Mark 14:32; Luke 22:39;">[xr]

Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place because Jesus often met there with his disciples.Luke 21:37; 22:39;">[xr]

Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, cutting off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.Matthew 26:51; Mark 14:47; Luke 22:49-50;">[xr]

Then the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and about his own teaching.

Then Annas sent him, with his hands tied, to Caiaphas the high priest.Matthew 26:57;">[xr]

Meanwhile, Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said to him, "You aren't one of his disciples, too, are you?" He denied it by saying, "I am not!"Matthew 26:69,71; Mark 14:69; Luke 22:58;">[xr]

The soldiers twisted some thorns into a victor's crown, put it on his head, and threw a purple robe on him.

Returning to his headquarters,to the praetorium">[fn] he said to Jesus, "Where are you from?" But Jesus gave him no reply.Isaiah 53:7; Matthew 27:12,14;">[xr]

When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four parts, one for each soldier, and took his cloakand his tunic">[fn] as well. The cloak was seamless, woven in one piece from the top down.Matthew 27:35; Mark 15:24; Luke 23:34;">[xr]

Meanwhile, standing near Jesus' cross were his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.Matthew 27:55; Mark 15:40; Luke 23:49; 24:18;">[xr]
