HA 557b20; δέρματα σωμάτων π . strip skins off from . ., Pl. Plt. 288e; αὐτοῦ τὰ κοινὰ πάντα περιελόντες Id. Sph. 264e; π. τινὰ αὐτοῦ τῆς ἐξουσίας Hdn. 3.11.3; simply, take away from, τῶν πολεμικῶν τὸ μελετᾶν X. II Pass., c. acc. rei, to be stripped of a thing, have a thing taken off or away from one, περιῃρημένοι χρήματα καὶ συμμάχους D. 3.31; περιαιρεθεὶς τὰ ὄντα Id. 21.138; τοὺς στεφάνους περιῄρηνται Id. 26.5: with acc. understood, περιαιρεθήσεσθαι ἤμελλον Epicur. Metaph., to take away entirely: ἐλπίς , pass., Acts 27:20; ἁμαρτίας , Hebrews 10:11.†
