Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

תֶּבֶל m. pollution, profanation. Leviticus 18:23, after the law against Sodomy, תֶּבֶל הוּא “this (is) profanation.” Leviticus 20:12. Root בָּלַל No. 3 (like תֶּמֶס from the root מָסַס), compare Ch. בַּלְבֵּל to profane (by incest), Genesis 49:4 Targ. Pseudo-Jon.; Arab. بلّ to be profane, to commit adultery.
