Therefore it behooved him in all things to be made like his brothers, that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.

For every house is built by someone; but he that built all things is God.

Take heed, brothers, lest perhaps there shall be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God:

For he has said somewhere of the seventh [day] on this wise, And God rested on the seventh day from all his works;

There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

For he that has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his.

For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Having then a great high priest, who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

For every high priest, being taken from among men, is appointed for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:

And no man takes the honor to himself, but when he is called of God, even as was Aaron.

For when by reason of the time you ought to be teachers, you have need again that some one teach you the rudiments of the first principles of the oracles of God; and have become such as have need of milk, and not of solid food.

Therefore leaving the doctrine of the first principles of Christ, let us press on to perfection; not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,

And this we will do, if God permits.

and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come,

and [then] fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

For the land which has drank the rain that comes often on it, and brings forth herbs meet for them for whose sake it is also tilled, receives blessing from God:

for God is not unrighteous to forget your work and the love which you showed toward his name, in having served the saints and still serving.

For when God made promise to Abraham, since he could swear by none greater, he swore by himself,

Wherein God, being minded to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath;
