although it was not Jesus who did the baptizing but his disciples -

So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the piece of land that Jacob had given to his son Joseph.Genesis 33:19; 48:22; Joshua 24:32;">[xr]

For his disciples had gone off into town to buy food.

You're not greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it, along with his sons and his flocks, are you?"

At this point his disciples arrived, and they were amazed that he was talking to a woman. Yet no one said, "What do you want from her?"from her">[fn] or, "Why are you talking to her?"

Jesus told them, "My food is doing the will of the one who sent me and completing his work.Job 1:23:12; John 6:38; 17:4; 19:30;">[xr]

The one who harvests is already receiving his wages and gathering a crop for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who harvests may rejoice together.Daniel 12:3;">[xr]

And many more believed because of his word.

For Jesus himself had testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.Matthew 13:57; Mark 6:4; Luke 4:24;">[xr]

When this man heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and asked him repeatedly to come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.

Jesus said to him, "Go home. Your son will live." The man believed what Jesus told him and started on his way.

While he was on his way down, his servants met him and told him that his childson">[fn] was alive.

Then the father realized that this was the very hour when Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." And he himself believed, along with his whole family.

The man immediately became well, and he picked up his mat and started walking. Now that day was a Sabbath.John 9:14;">[xr]

So the Jews[fn] were trying all the harder to kill him, because he was not only breaking the Sabbath but was also calling God his own Father, thus making himself equal to God.John 7:19; Philippians 2:6;">[xr]

Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing on his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For what he does, the Son does likewise.John 5:30; 8:28; 9:4; 12:49; 14:10;">[xr]

Don't be amazed at this, because the hour is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice

That man was a lamp that burns and brightly shines, and for a while you were willing to rejoice in his light.Matthew 13:20; 21:26; Mark 6:20; 2 Peter 1:19;">[xr]

Moreover, the Father who sent me has himself testified on my behalf. You have never heard his voice or seen his appearance,Deuteronomy 4:12; Matthew 3:17; 17:5; John 1:18; 6:27; 8:18; 1 Timothy 1:17; 1 John 4:12;">[xr]

nor do you have his word abiding in you, because you do not believe in the one whom he sent.
