When I thought how I might know this, It was too painful for me;

For my soul was grieved, And I was pricked in my heart:

For, look, those that are far from you shall perish: You have destroyed all those prostituting from you.

But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have made the Lord Yahweh my refuge, That I may tell of all your works.

Your adversaries have roared in the midst of your assembly; They have set up their ensigns for signs.

Have respect to the covenant; For the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of violence.

Is his loving-kindness clean gone forever? Does his promise fail for evermore?

I will make mention of the deeds of Yah; For I will remember your wonders of old.

For he established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which he commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their sons;

Look, he smote the rock, so that waters gushed out, And streams overflowed; Can he give bread also? Will he provide flesh for his people?

For all this they sinned still, And did not believe in his wondrous works.

For their heart was not right with him, Neither were they faithful in his covenant.

He made a path for his anger; He did not spare their soul from death, But gave their life over to the pestilence,

He drove out the nations also before them, And allotted them for an inheritance by line, And made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.

For they provoked him to anger with their high places, And moved him to jealousy with their graven images.
