For a person is not a Jew because of his appearance, nor is circumcision something external and physical.Matthew 3:9; John 8:39; Romans 9:6-7; Galatians 6:15; Revelation 2:9;">[xr]

whom God offered as a place where atonement by Christ'shis">[fn] blood could occur through faith. He did thisHe did this">[fn] to demonstrate his righteousness, because he had waited patiently to deal with sins committed in the past.Leviticus 16:15; Acts 13:38-39; 17:30; Colossians 1:20; 1 Timothy 1:15; Hebrews 9:15; 1 John 2:2; 4:10;">[xr]

He was handed over to death because of our sins and was raised to life because of our justification.Isaiah 53:5-6; Romans 3:25; 5:6; 8:32; 1 Corinthians 15:17; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Galatians 1:4; Hebrews 9:28; 1 Peter 1:21; 2:24; 3:18;">[xr]

Now this hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.2 Corinthians 1:22; Galatians 4:6; Ephesians 1:13-14; Philippians 1:20;">[xr]

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, so death spread to everyone, because all have sinned.Genesis 2:17; 3:6; Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 15:21;">[xr]

For if, through one man, death ruled because of that man's offense, how much more will those who receive such overflowing grace and the gift of righteousness rule in life because of one man, Jesus Christ!

For sin will not have mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace.Romans 7:4,6; 8:2; Galatians 5:18;">[xr]

What, then, does this mean?does this mean">[fn] Should we go on sinning because we are not under law but under grace? Of course not!1 Corinthians 9:21;">[xr]

I am speaking in human terms because of the frailty of your flesh. Just as you once offered the parts of your bodyyour members">[fn] as slaves to impurity and to greater and greater disobedience, so now, in the same way, you must offer the parts of your bodyyour members">[fn] as slaves to righteousness that leads to sanctification.

That is why the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile toward God. For it refuses to submit to the authority of God's law because it is powerless to do so.1 Corinthians 2:14; James 4:4;">[xr]

But if Christ is in you, your bodies are dead because of sin, but the Spiritspirit">[fn] is life because of righteousness.

because the creation was subjected to frustration, though not by its own choice. The one who subjected it did so in the hopeGenesis 3:19; Romans 8:22;">[xr]

For the Lord will carry out his planIsaiah 28:22;">[xr] and shorten it in righteousness,in righteousness">[fn] because he will carry out his plan on the earth decisively."Isaiah 10:22-23">[fn]

Why not? Because they did not pursue it on the basis of faith, but as if it were based on works. They stumbled over the stone that causes people to stumble.Luke 2:34; 1 Corinthians 1:23;">[xr]

For there is no difference between Jew and Greek, because they all have the same Lord, who gives richly to all who call on him.Acts 10:36; 15:9; Romans 3:22,29; Galatians 3:28; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Timothy 2:5;">[xr]

And so I ask, "They have not stumbled so as to fall, have they?" Of course not! On the contrary, because of their stumbling, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make the Jewsthem">[fn] jealous.Acts 13:46; 18:6; Romans 10:19;">[xr]

I am speaking to you Gentiles. Because I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I am glorifying my ministryActs 9:15; 13:2; 22:21; Romans 15:16; Galatians 1:16; Ephesians 3:8; 1 Timothy 2:7; 2 Timothy 1:11;">[xr]

That's right! They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you remain only because of faith. Do not be arrogant, but be afraid!be reverent">[fn]Proverbs 28:14; Isaiah 66:2; Romans 12:16; Philippians 2:12;">[xr]

If the Jewsthey">[fn] do not persist in their unbelief, they will be grafted in again, because God is able to graft them in.2 Corinthians 3:16;">[xr]
