Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue leader said to the people, "There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath."

"Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

‘Your brother has come,' he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.'

But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.'"

So he called him in and asked him, ‘What is this I hear about you? Give an account of your management, because you cannot be manager any longer.'

"The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light.

So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

Will he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do?

nor will people say, ‘Here it is,' or ‘There it is,' because the kingdom of God is in your midst."

yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually come and attack me!'"

When he heard this, he became very sad, because he was very wealthy.

He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd.

Jesus said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.

While they were listening to this, he went on to tell them a parable, because he was near Jerusalem and the people thought that the kingdom of God was going to appear at once.

"‘Well done, my good servant!' his master replied. ‘Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.'

I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man. You take out what you did not put in and reap what you did not sow.'

They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."

Yet they could not find any way to do it, because all the people hung on his words.

But if we say, ‘Of human origin,' all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet."

The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest him immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people.
