He was speaking about the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were later to receive. For the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

So there was division in the crowd because of Jesus.

Jesus replied, "Even if I testify about Myself, My testimony is valid, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I came from or where I am going.

But even if I do judge, My judgment is true, because I am not alone when I judge; I am with the Father, who sent Me.

He spoke these words while teaching in the temple courts, near the treasury. Yet no one seized Him, because His hour had not yet come.

He who sent Me is with Me. He has not left Me alone, because I always do what pleases Him."

I know you are Abraham's descendants, but you are trying to kill Me because My word has no place within you.

Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you are unable to accept My message.

You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.

But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me!

Because of this, some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for He does not keep the Sabbath." But others said, "How can a sinful man perform such signs?" And there was division among them.

His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already determined that anyone who confessed Jesus as the Christ would be put out of the synagogue.

When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.

But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will flee from him because they do not recognize his voice."

The man runs away because he is a hired servant and is unconcerned for the sheep.

Again there was division among the Jews because of Jesus' message.

But because you are not My sheep, you refuse to believe.

"We are not stoning You for any good work," said the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because You, who are a man, declare Yourself to be God."

Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? If anyone walks in the daytime, he will not stumble, because he sees by the light of this world.

But if anyone walks at night, he will stumble, because he has no light."
