I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, ‘Go,' and they go, or ‘Come,' and they come. And if I say to my slaves, ‘Do this,' they do it."

And he added, "God blesses those who do not fall away because of me."

Then Jesus' mother and brothers came to see him, but they couldn't get to him because of the crowd.

On the other side of the lake the crowds welcomed Jesus, because they had been waiting for him.

But the crowd laughed at him because they all knew she had died.

John said to Jesus, "Master, we saw someone using your name to cast out demons, but we told him to stop because he isn't in our group."

But the people of the village did not welcome Jesus because he was on his way to Jerusalem.

Don't move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don't hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve their pay.

But don't rejoice because evil spirits obey you; rejoice because your names are registered in heaven."

But I tell you this—though he won't do it for friendship's sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.

When he arrives, he will call together his friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'

And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.'

‘Your brother is back,' he was told, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf. We are celebrating because of his safe return.'

So the employer called him in and said, ‘What's this I hear about you? Get your report in order, because you are going to be fired.'

but this woman is driving me crazy. I'm going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!'"

The crowd was listening to everything Jesus said. And because he was nearing Jerusalem, he told them a story to correct the impression that the Kingdom of God would begin right away.

I was afraid because you are a hard man to deal with, taking what isn't yours and harvesting crops you didn't plant.'

They will crush you into the ground, and your children with you. Your enemies will not leave a single stone in place, because you did not recognize it when God visited you."

But they could think of nothing, because all the people hung on every word he said.

But if we say it was merely human, the people will stone us because they are convinced John was a prophet."
