Gesenius' Hebrew and Chaldee Definition

פָּרַר to break, to break in pieces (compare פּוּר No. I). In Kal once inf. absol. פּוֹר Isaiah 24:19 (although its form might be more correctly referred to פּוּר No. I.)

Hiphil הֵפֵר (in Pause הֵפַר Genesis 7:14), inf. הָפֵר, with aff. הַפְרְכֶם Leviticus 26:15.

(1) to break, always used figuratively, as a covenant, Leviticus 26:44; Isaiah 33:8; Ezekiel 17:16 a law, Psalms 119:126.

(2) to make void, as counsel, 2 Samuel 15:34; Psalms 33:10, compare Job 5:12; Proverbs 15:22; Isaiah 44:25 to declare void, e.g. a vow, Numbers 30:9, 13 Numbers 30:13 intrans. to be void, Ecclesiastes 12:5. Hence

(3) to bring to nothing (vernichten), to take away, as piety, Job 15:4 any one’s right, Job 40:8; Psalms 85:5, הָפֵר כַּעַסְךָ עִמָּנוּ “take away (avert) thy anger which is with us” (towards us).

Hophal הֻפַר to be made void, Isaiah 8:10 Jerem. 33:21.

Poel פּוֹרֵר to divide (the sea), Psalms 74:13.

Hithpolel הִתְפּוֹרֵר to be broken, cleft, i.e. to quake (as the earth), Isaiah 24:19.

Pilpel, to shake (compare Isaiah 24:19), Job 16:12.

II.

פָּרַר i.q. פָּרָא, פָּרָה to be borne swiftly, to run. Hence פַּרְפַּר, which see [also in Thes. פַּר, פָּרָה].
