I am not at ease, neither am I quiet, neither have I rest; But trouble comes.

So am I made to possess months of misery, And wearisome nights are appointed to me.

When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? And I am full of tossings to and fro to the dawning of the day.

Am I a sea, or a sea-monster, That you set a watch over me?

If I have sinned, what do I do to you, O you watcher of man? Why have you set me as a mark for you, So that I am a burden to you?

I am perfect; I do not regard myself; I despise my life.

I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.

For he is not a man as I am, that I should answer him, That we should come together in judgment.

Then I would speak and not fear him; For I am not so in myself.

Although you know that I am not wicked, And there is none that can deliver out of your hand?

If I am wicked, woe to me; And if I am righteous, yet I shall not lift up my head, filled with shame and drunk with my affliction.
