One day He and His disciples got into a boat, and He told them, "Let's cross over to the other side of the lake." So they set out,

They came and woke Him up, saying, "Master, Master, we're going to die!" Then He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves. So they ceased, and there was a calm.

Then all the people of the Gerasene region asked Him to leave them, because they were gripped by great fear. So getting into the boat, He returned.

So He took her by the hand and called out, "Child, get up!"

So they went out and traveled from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing everywhere.

Late in the day, the Twelve approached and said to Him, "Send the crowd away, so they can go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find food and lodging, because we are in a deserted place here."

They did so, and had them all sit down.

But they did not understand this statement; it was concealed from them so that they could not grasp it, and they were afraid to ask Him about it.

But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, and she came up and asked, "Lord, don't You care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand."

"So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you. Keep searching, and you will find. Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you.

For just as Jonah became a sign to the people of Nineveh, so also the Son of Man will be to this generation.

"No one lights a lamp and puts it in the cellar or under a basket, but on a lampstand, so that those who come in may see its light.

As He was speaking, a Pharisee asked Him to dine with him. So He went in and reclined at the table.

so that this generation may be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world —

In these circumstances, a crowd of many thousands came together, so that they were trampling on one another. He began to say to His disciples first: "Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

You must be like people waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once.

He also said to the crowds: "When you see a cloud rising in the west, right away you say, ‘A storm is coming,' and so it does.

"But when you are invited, go and recline in the lowest place, so that when the one who invited you comes, he will say to you, ‘Friend, move up higher.' You will then be honored in the presence of all the other guests.

"So the slave came back and reported these things to his master. Then in anger, the master of the house told his slave, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city, and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind, and lame!'

"Then the master told the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and lanes and make them come in, so that my house may be filled.
