Then the master told the servant, 'Go out into the streets and the lanes and make the people come in, so that my house may be full.

So he told them this parable:

The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So the fatherhe">[fn] divided his property between them.Mark 12:44;">[xr]

So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs.

"So he got up and went to his father. While he was still far away, his father saw him and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son,to his son">[fn] threw his arms around him, and kissed him affectionately.Acts 2:39; Ephesians 2:13,17;">[xr]

So he called to one of the servants and asked what was happening.

"Then the older sonhe">[fn] became angry and wouldn't go into the house.wouldn't go in">[fn] So his father came out and began to plead with him.

But he answered his father, "Listen! All these years I've worked like a slave for you. I've never disobeyed a command of yours. Yet you've never given me so much as a young goat so that I could celebrate with my friends.

So he called for him and asked him, 'What's this I hear about you? Give me a report about your management, because you can't be my manager any longer.'

I know what I'll do so that peoplethey">[fn] will welcome me into their homes when I'm dismissed from my job.'

"So he called for each of his master's debtors. He asked the first, 'How much do you owe my master?'

The master praised the dishonest manager for being so clever. For worldly peoplethe sons of this age">[fn] are more clever than enlightened peoplethe sons of light">[fn] in dealing with their own generation.John 12:36; Ephesians 5:8; 1 Thessalonians 5:5;">[xr]

"I'm telling you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous riches,mammon, an Aram. term meaning wealth">[fn] so that when they're gone you'll be welcomedthey will welcome you">[fn] into eternal homes.tents">[fn]Daniel 4:27; Matthew 6:19; 19:21; Luke 11:41; 1 Timothy 6:17-19;">[xr]

So if you have not been faithful with unrighteous riches,mammon, an Aram. term meaning wealth">[fn] who will trust you with true wealth?with the true">[fn]

So he said to them, "You try to justify yourselves in front of people, but God knows your hearts. For what is highly valued by people is detestable to God.1 Samuel 16:7; Psalm 7:9; Luke 10:29;">[xr]

So he shouted, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and to cool off my tongue, because I am suffering in this fire.'Isaiah 66:24; Zechariah 14:12; Mark 9:44;">[xr]

Besides all this, a wide chasm has been fixed between us, so that those who want to cross from this side to you can't do so, nor can they cross from your side to us.'

for I have five brothers - to warn them, so that they won't end up in this place of torture, too.'

For just as lightning flashes and shines from one end of the sky to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day.in his day">[fn]Matthew 24:27;">[xr]
