Aaron is to present the Levites before the Lord as a wave offering from the Israelites, so that they may be ready to do the work of the Lord .

From among all the Israelites, I have given the Levites as gifts to Aaron and his sons to do the work at the tent of meeting on behalf of the Israelites and to make atonement for them so that no plague will strike the Israelites when they go near the sanctuary."

So Moses told the Israelites to celebrate the Passover,

and they did so in the Desert of Sinai at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. The Israelites did everything just as the Lord commanded Moses.

But some of them could not celebrate the Passover on that day because they were ceremonially unclean on account of a dead body. So they came to Moses and Aaron that same day

So they set out from the mountain of the Lord and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.

So that place was called Taberah, because fire from the Lord had burned among them.

I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take some of the power of the Spirit that is on you and put it on them. They will share the burden of the people with you so that you will not have to carry it alone.

So Moses went out and told the people what the Lord had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the tent.

Then the Lord came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took some of the power of the Spirit that was on him and put it on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied—but did not do so again.

At once the Lord said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the tent of meeting, all three of you." So the three of them went out.

and he said to Moses, "Please, my lord, I ask you not to hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed.

So Moses cried out to the Lord , "Please, God, heal her!"

So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back.

So at the Lord 's command Moses sent them out from the Desert of Paran. All of them were leaders of the Israelites.

So they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob, toward Lebo Hamath.

‘The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath, so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.'

So tell them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Lord , I will do to you the very thing I heard you say:

So the men Moses had sent to explore the land, who returned and made the whole community grumble against him by spreading a bad report about it—

So the assembly took him outside the camp and stoned him to death, as the Lord commanded Moses.
