Thus says Yahweh: Though they are in full strength, and likewise many, even so they shall be cut down, and he shall pass away. Though I have afflicted you, I will afflict you no more.

I have cut off nations; their battlements are desolate; I have made their streets waste, so that none passes by; their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, so that there is no inhabitant.

I said, Only fear me; receive correction; so her dwelling shall not be cut off, [according to] all that I have appointed concerning her: but they rose early and corrupted all their doings.

Then Haggai answered and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, says Yahweh; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my slaves the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? and they turned and said, Like Yahweh of hosts thought to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so has he dealt with us.

So the angel that talked with me said to me, Cry out, saying, Thus says Yahweh of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

Then I said, What do these come to do? And he spoke, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.

And I said, Let them set a clean turban on his head. So they set a clean turban on his head, and clothed him with garments; and the angel of Yahweh was standing by.

And the strong went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Go from here, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.

[and] to speak to the priests of the house of Yahweh of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

And it has come to pass that, as he cried out, and they would not hear, so they shall cry out, and I will not hear, said Yahweh of hosts;

but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

And it shall come to pass that, as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so I will save you, and you shall be a blessing. Don't be afraid, [but] let your hands be strong.

so again I have thought in these days to do good to Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: don't be afraid.

So I fed the flock of slaughter, and the sheep-dealers. And I took to me two poles; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.

And I said to them, If you think good, give me my wages; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my wages thirty [pieces] of silver.

And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the donkey, and of all the beasts that shall be in those camps, as that plague.

So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the Babylonian Exile were fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian Exile to the Christ were fourteen generations.

Now all this happened so that which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled,

Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for they so persecuted the prophets that were before you.
