So it was in the days of Lot. PeopleThey">[fn] were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.Genesis 19:1-38;">[xr]

So when Jesus saw how sad he was, heSo Jesus looked at him and">[fn] said, "How hard it is for rich people to get into the kingdom of God!Proverbs 11:28; Matthew 19:23; Mark 10:23;">[xr]

He was trying to see who Jesus was, but he couldn't do so because of the crowd. (He was short in height.)

So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus,him">[fn] who was going to pass that way.

So he said, "A prince went to a distant country to be appointed king and then to return.Matthew 25:14; Mark 13:34;">[xr]

"After he was appointed king, he came back. He ordered the servants to whom he had given the money to be called so that he could find out what they had made by investing.

"So the kinghe">[fn] told those standing nearby, 'Take the coin away from him and give it to the man who has the ten coins.'

So those who were sent went off and found it as he had told them.

So they answered that they didn't know where it was from.

But when the farmers saw him, they talked it over among themselves and said, 'This is the heir. Let's kill him so that the inheritance will be ours!'

So they threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. Now what will the owner of the vineyard do to them?

So they watched him closely and sent spies who pretended to be honest men in order to trap him in what he would say. They wanted to hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.Matthew 22:15;">[xr]

So they asked him, "Teacher, we know that you are right in what you say and teach, and that you don't favor any individual, but teach the way of God truthfully.Matthew 22:16; Mark 12:14;">[xr]

So he said to them, "Then give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

So they couldn't catch him before the people in what he said. Amazed at his answer, they became silent.

So David calls him 'Lord.' Then how can he be his son?"

So purpose in your hearts not to prepare your defense ahead of time,Matthew 10:19; Mark 13:11; Luke 12:11;">[xr]

So be alert at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place and to take your stand in the presence of the Son of Man."Psalm 1:5; Matthew 24:42; 25:13; Mark 13:33; Luke 18:1; Ephesians 6:13;">[xr]

So the high priests and the scribes were looking for a way to put him to death, for they were afraid of the crowd.Psalm 2:2; John 11:47; Acts 4:27;">[xr]
