To keep me from becoming conceited because of the exceptional nature of these revelations, a thornstake">[fn] was given to me and placed in my body.was given to me in the flesh">[fn] It was Satan's messenger to keep on tormenting me so that I would not become conceited.Job 1:2:7; Ezekiel 28:24; Luke 13:16; Galatians 4:13-14;">[xr]

but he has told me, "My grace is all you need, for my power is perfected in weakness." Therefore, I will most happily boast about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.2 Corinthians 11:30; 1 Peter 4:14;">[xr]

I encouraged Titus to visit you, and I sent along with him the brother you know so well. Titus didn't take advantage of you, did he? We conducted ourselves with the same spirit, didn't we? We took the very same steps, didn't we?2 Corinthians 8:6,16, 18,22;">[xr]

We pray to God that you will not do anything wrong - not to show that we have not failed the test, but so that you may do what is right, even if we seem to have failed.2 Corinthians 6:9;">[xr]

So they kept glorifying God for what had happened towhat had happened to">[fn] me.

However, false brothers were secretly brought in. They slipped in to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus so that they might enslave us.Acts 15:1,24; Acts 15:1,24, 2 Corinthians 11:20,26; Galatians 3:25;">[xr]

But we did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might always remain with you.Galatians 2:14; 3:1; 4:16;">[xr]

So when James, Cephas,[fn] and John (who were reputed to be leaders)pillars">[fn] recognized the grace that had been given me, they gave Barnabas and me the right hand of fellowship, agreeing that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.Matthew 16:18; Romans 1:5; 15:15; 1 Corinthians 15:10; Ephesians 2:20; 3:8; Revelation 21:14;">[xr]

But when I saw that they were not acting consistently with the truth of the gospel, I told Cephas in front of everyone, "Though you are a Jew, you live like a Gentile and not like a Jew.
