While I was with them, I protected them by your name that you gave me. "And now I am coming to you, and I say these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in themselves.

I have given them the glory that you gave me, so that they may be one, just as we are one.John 14:20; 1 John 1:3; 3:24;">[xr]

So they said to each other, "Let's not tear it. Instead, let's throw dice to see who gets it." This was to fulfill the Scripture that says,Psalm 22:18;">[xr] "They divided my clothes among themselves, and for my clothing they threw dice."Psalm 22:18">[fn] So that is what the soldiers did.

The one who saw this has testified, and his testimony is true. He knows he is telling the truth so that you, too, may believe.

But these have been recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ,[fn] the Son of God, and so that through believing you may have life in his name.Luke 1:4; John 3:15-16; 5:24; 1 Peter 1:9;">[xr]

This became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that this field is called in their language Hakeldama, that is, "The Field of Blood".)

Now a man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day peoplethey">[fn] would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the temple.John 9:8; Acts 14:8;">[xr]

so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord and so that he may send you Jesus, the Christ[fn] whom he appointed long ago.
