So without delay the king sent a soldier and ordered him to bring John'shis">[fn] head. The soldierHe">[fn] went and beheaded him in prison.

So they went away in a boat to a deserted place by themselves.Matthew 14:13;">[xr]

But many people saw them leave and recognized them. So they hurried there on foot from all the towns and arrived ahead of them.

Send the crowdsthem">[fn] away so that they can go to the neighboring farms and villages and buy themselves something to eat."

So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties.

So the Pharisees and the scribes asked Jesus,him">[fn] "Why don't your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders? Instead, they eateat bread">[fn] with unclean hands."Matthew 15:2;">[xr]
