If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a man perfectly well on the Sabbath?John 5:8-9,16;">[xr]

At this point Jesus, still teaching in the temple, shouted, "So you know me and know where I have come from? I have not come on my own accord. But the one who sent me is true, and he is the one you do not know.John 1:18; Romans 3:4;">[xr]

The Pharisees heard the crowd debating these things about him, so the high priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

Then the Jews[fn] said to one another, "Where does this man intend to go so that we will not find him? Surely he's not going to the Dispersion[fn] among the Greeks and teach the Greeks, is he?Isaiah 11:12; James 1:1; 1 Peter 1:1;">[xr]

So there was a division in the crowd because of him.John 7:12; 9:16; 10:19;">[xr]

At daybreak he appeared again in the temple, and all the people came to him. So he sat down and began to teach them.

They said this to test him, so that they might have a charge against him. But Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.

So the Jews said, "He isn't going to kill himself, is he? Is that why he said,Because he said">[fn] 'You cannot come where I am going'?"

So Jesus told them, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority. Instead, I speak only what the Father has taught me.John 3:11,14; 12:32; Romans 1:4;">[xr]

So Jesus said to those Jews who had believed in him, "If you continue in my word, you are really my disciples.

They replied to him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves to anybody. So how can you say, 'You will be set free'?"Leviticus 25:42; Matthew 3:9; John 8:39;">[xr]

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!"Romans 8:2; Galatians 5:1;">[xr]

Then the Jews[fn] said to him, "Now we really know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, 'If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death at all.'Zechariah 1:5; Hebrews 11:13;">[xr]

Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned. This happened so thatBut so that">[fn] the works of God might be revealed in him.John 11:4;">[xr]

and told him, "Go and wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated "Sent One"). So he went off and washed and came back seeing.2 Kings 5:14; Nehemiah 3:15;">[xr]

So they said to him, "How, then, were your eyes opened?"

He said, "The man named Jesus made some mud, spread it on my eyes, and told me, 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So off I went and washed, and I received my sight."John 9:6-7;">[xr]

So they brought to the Pharisees the man who had once been blind.

So the Pharisees also began to ask him how he had received his sight. He told them, "He put mud on my eyes, then I washed, and now I can see."

So they said again to the blind man, "What do you say about him, for it was your eyes he opened?" He said, "He is a prophet."John 4:19; 6:14;">[xr]
