So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him: and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah cleaved to their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but didn't go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.

So Amasa went to call [the men of] Judah together; but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the body, and shed out his insides to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

Then she spoke, saying, They used to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask [counsel] at Abel: and so they ended [the matter].

The matter is not so: but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said to Joab, Look, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall.

I will call on Yahweh, who is worthy to be praised: So I shall be saved from my enemies.

He teaches my hands to war, So that my arms bend a bow of bronze.

And I have consumed them, and smitten them through, so that they can't arise: Yes, they have fallen under my feet.

Truly my house is not so with God; Yet he has made with me an everlasting covenant, Ordered in all things, and sure: For it is all my salvation, and all [my] desire, Although he does not make it to grow.

So when they had gone to and from through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

So Gad came to David, and told him, and said to him, Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? or shall there be three days' pestilence in your land? now advise, and consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

So Yahweh sent a pestilence on Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.

And the king said to Araunah, No; but I will truly buy it of you at a price. Neither will I offer burnt-offerings to Yahweh my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

And David built an altar there to Yahweh, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So Yahweh was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

So they sought for a fair damsel throughout all the borders of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

And his father had not displeased him at any time in saying, Why have you done so? and he was also a very goodly man; and he was born after Absalom.

truly as I swore to you by Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying, Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my stead; truly so I will do this day.
